TERRE HAUTE PLEIN AIR PAINTING GROUP forming
Hello Artists,
You are invited to come Plein Air painting with a newly forming group.
Some of the artists (currently 3 of us) who participated in the William Turman Plein Air Event put on by the Swope Art Museum will meet August 30 @ 8:00 am at the Maple Avenue Nature Park, to paint for 2-3 hours.
Our ideas about the activities of the group after that are:
1. A group would meet regularly, possibly weekly
2. Choice of venue would be rotated amongst attendees
3. It would be the same time each week, currently Friday mornings, 8-11 am
4. You could arrive and leave at any time during that time.
5. All experience levels are welcome; come and get tips from others--we can all help each other!

CALLS FOR ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE STATE

The building east façade is approximately 14’ tall and 120’ long. The façade is evenly divided into seven sections with pilasters as vertical divisions. The mural design can incorporate the pilasters as dividers to create individual coordinating murals or combine all sections to create a full-size art piece. Now an aspiring young architect in Terre Haute, Indiana, Willum Cubbert has often told his friends about the debt he owes to Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-GI whom he has never met but who saved his life after he was seriously wounded in Vietnam. He has written to Rick to say that, as long as he is alive, “you will have somebody on Earth who will do anything for you” —so Willum is delighted when Rick shows up unexpectedly at his apartment on the night of his thirty-fourth birthday party. But his delight soon fades as it becomes apparent that Rick is a hopeless “nerd” —a bumbling oaf with no social sense, little intelligence and less tact. And Rick stays on and on, his continued presence among Willum and his friends leading to one uproarious incident after another, until the normally placid Willum finds himself contemplating violence— a dire development which, happily, is staved off by the surprising “twist” ending of the play.

Leonid & Friends: The Music of Chicago and More
Friday, September 13, 2024
7: 30 pm
LEONID & FRIENDS have blown the minds of legions of fans with their uncanny ability to capture the spirit, musicality, and fire of American supergroup Chicago. Leonid Vorobyev's goal was a studio project in dedication to Chicago under the motto “musicians for musicians”.
Flowers for Algernon
September 12-14; 18-21
8 pm
Ingeniously touching and intensely real,” wrote the critic of The Baltimore Sun. “Convincing, suspenseful, touching,” was the comment of the New York Times critic who concluded his review with the observation that this was “affecting, too. How otherwise explain the tears that come to one’s eyes at the end.” This is the compelling story of Charlie, a mentally retarded man, and the strange interweaving of his life with that of Algernon, a mouse. Experimental surgery has been performed on Algernon increasing his intelligence fourfold. The operation is tried on Charlie, whose intelligence rapidly increases to that of a genius, far more intelligent than his teacher, Alice Kinnian, or the doctors who created the operating technique. As Charlie approaches the peak of his brilliance, Algernon shows frightening symptoms of regression. The play becomes a race against time in which Charlie tries to keep his new intelligence long enough to save himself and thus continue what he and Alice have found. This is a different kind of play: poignant, romantic, funny and tragic, but with hope of man’s indomitable spirit.
